The challenge was to use wood in winery to create an immersive experience in this latest case study. Nga Waka’s new winery is all about delivering an immersive cellar door experience for visitors. The extensive use of natural timber lends a crafted feel to the building’s design, which references and acknowledges the hand crafted yet complex nature of Nga Waka wine. The designer captured the brief perfectly, specifying Glulam to realise the right materiality. The sloped roofline nods to the Remutaka Ranges and exploits natural light.
