What we do

WoodWorks is an industry-driven advisory service designed to overcome the key objections to using engineered wood in commercial and multi-residential buildings. Our key objectives are to inform, educate and motivate to people to use more wood in construction. The target audience is decision-makers, key stakeholders, consulting professionals and influencers involved in developing, designing, building and occupying commercial property.

The pan-industry support model for “WoodWorks” services is proven in Australia, Canada and USA. Their services have been operating successfully for 5 to 10 years. If we can learn from their experience using new enabling technologies (eg building information modelling) we can continue to improve our effectiveness.

For WoodWorks in New Zealand, we will collaborate with the professionals offering to donate their time alongside producers and sources of technical information, building case studies and engineering examples. As these various sources become available we will collect and promote a library of practical and reliable information.

We will also support and promote a single information source to co-promote regional and local initiatives by local technical specialists. We have had over 35 offers for the contribution of professional time to assist us to promote wood widely.

Where appropriate we will establish and foster local and practical 'networks of expertise' to share open source architectural and engineering information. This will be combined with 'hands-on' experiences through site visits to exemplar buildings both during construction and on completion as widely as possible with support from collaborators.
