The future direction of sustainability is in advanced planning on a new scale seen worldwide.
An entire new city about sustainability creating a sense of community, a walkable urban city built with renewable plantation forest trees into Cross Laminated Timber construction stored carbon (CLT).
It’s also about “speed to market” with advanced modular construction in CLT. Old, inefficient, custom-entrenched building practices are things of the past. With advanced modular construction platforms built from CLT, construction times can be reduced by up to 75% of the time, which is a money cost.
‘Stockholm Wood City’ will occupy 25 city blocks in Sickla, an old industrial quarter in the south of Sweden’s capital. There will be 30 buildings in total, all of them made from mass timber. Providing 2,000 homes and 7,000 office spaces as well as shops and restaurants. Mass timber is made by glueing layers of wood together. It’s fire-resistant and strong and has a much lower carbon footprint than concrete which generates 8% of CO2 emissions worldwide.
