A special report by UN classifying climate change as urgent has caught the attention of Korea’s largest public TV broadcaster, Korea Broadcasting System (KBS.) KBS televised an hour-long documentary, The Secret of 1.5°C, Wood Buildings, advocating wood construction as a climate change mitigation strategy. The program aired on August 28, 2019, and reached millions of viewers.
The special report was published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) under the UN in October 2018. The report states that mitigation of global warming to 1.5 ºC is not physically impossible but would require unprecedented transitions in all aspects of society. There are clear benefits to keeping global warming under 1.5 ºC compared to 2 ºC or higher. The video can be viewed on KBS site at: KBS Special on Wood Buildings
