Vittorio Salvadori has a PhD in Timber Hybrid Buildings. As part of his PhD Research he surveyed and analysed more than 200 multi-storey timber-based buildings in the world, built between 2004 and 2019. What he learned is that there are evident international trends in the practice of their construction (such as mass timber products used, material of the core, etc.), and at the same time, there are national nuances. The ultimate conclusion is that the design possibilities of modern mass timber buildings, as opposed to concrete and steel structures, depend on the country in which they are designed.
