Case Study: From Paper to Reality – Te Ara o Puanga (Mary Potter Hospice Apartments)
Daniel Moroder, Senior Structural Engineer, PTL, and President of the NZ Timber Design Society
PTL Structural and Fire are specialist timber engineers currently involved in several multi-storey timber projects.
The presentation will cover the success storey of the design, pre-fabrication and installation of the 5 storey Te Ara o Puanga in Wellington. The hybrid light timber framing, glulam and LVL structure provided a fast, quiet, and cost-effective solution to overcome difficult site conditions and strict vibration, fire and acoustic performance requirements. Based on the smooth assembly on site and a few lessons learnt, this building is already an example for other designs currently underway.
